Is Stress Affecting Your Marriage and Family? observe 3 Ways to quickly relax Stress and Anger

It seems that stress is considered a normal part of life for most people. Work stress, marriage stress, house stress, financial stress, health stress, house stress....the list goes on. When stress becomes astonishing and your find yourself frustrated or angry what can you do? Taking it out on your marriage partner or house is not a great way to administrate your stress. When you are stressed and your anger is triggered and you begin to feel your body rejoinder (for example, increased heart rate, clenching teeth, sweating, emotions welling up in your throat, tears, etc.) there are three things that will help you sacrifice your stress and anger and quickly help you obtain a sense of control over your emotions:

  1. Take a time out. This means that before you say or do something that you may regret, it is prominent to find a way to get alone or separate yourself from others in order to avoid escalation of a situation. If you are in a crowded place, you may be able to sit down somewhere on your own. If you are with another person excuse yourself for a moment, let them know you'll be back. Anger can manifest itself in unpleasant ways and consequent in damaging relationships and regret. Taking some time away can help you calm down, clear your thinking, and help you gain perspective.
  2. Once you separate yourself, begin to deep breath. Take long slow deep breaths in and out. Try to relax your muscles one by one and try to become aware of where your stress is sitting in your body. Possibly you feel it in your chest or in your jaw, if so, focus on relaxing that part of your body, continue the deep breathing until you find yourself relaxing more and more.
  3. Close your eyes and imaging you are in a favourite place, for example, on a white sandy beach in a hammock. Imagery can help you to calm down more quickly. You can go so far as to imagine the scents, sounds and sensations you perceive in that place. For example imagine the sound of ocean waves lapping at the shore, the balmy zephyr rustling through the palm trees and the smell of coconut tanning oil you just lathered yourself with) I call it my "Happy Place". Find yours and use it to help you calm yourself. It's like taking a mental vacation from life. Stay there as long as you need and go there as often as you need, especially while very stressful periods of your life. Sounds odd, but it works!

Do It Yourself

You may wish to take a walk, run, exercise, soak in a hot bath, read, listen to music, watch Tv or just sit quietly for a few moments to allow your stress level to reduce. Every person can find a way that helps them to calm down quickly. Find yours and use it when you feel yourself becoming overwhelmed with stress and anger. Once you're calm you will be in a best head space to deal with the situation that triggered the anger in you in the first place.
